"Good morning, Ken I just read your book and want to thank you for the thoughtful way you signed and personalized your inscription. I was captivated from cover to cover. I'm a big fan of adventure and have been on a few myself—with and without planning, and I can relate to yours very well. I've been told, 'It's not an adventure if it doesn't suck a little.' Your story is chock full of adventure! What a great read!

I loved riding with you up the river and tackling your obstacles as they came. I felt your tenacity to go on after Natchez and your exhausted reluctance to stop in St. Cloud. I felt your appreciation throughout for the 'angels' that appeared, just at the right time, just for you. BTW, they are real, I've met them. Angels like Earl and Bob and the generous givers of food and shelter are amazing. I also know it had to be impossible to put them all in the book. There is good in the world. I know that you didn't just appear on a sandy white sandbar each day, that there were hours of agony and endurance before stopping for a miserable night of more endurance—just because it's dark doesn't mean the heat, rain, bugs, and snakes go away. Not everything made it into the book. I know that some of it you'll never tell a soul. I guess i'm saying that I read between the lines as an adventurer, and the book was much bigger than 280 pages for me.

My beautiful young wife loved quoting your Hunter S. Thompson ending quote. We lived fuller lives with that in mind. We lost Kim too soon, but she would have enjoyed your book too. It was apropos that Thompson's quote ended the story. Bravo!

Obviously, the story touched me personally. Much to my surprise, I am actually growing old, hitting sixty-two next month and still feel like 'I got one more in me.' I've reached out to my partner in crime and shaken his adventure bone too. We are going to do something. We have to. It's an itch we have to scratch, and your book woke it back up. For that alone, I'm grateful for the book. I'm also thinking much harder about writing down our 30-day hike from Seattle to the Pacific Coast Trail to the San Juan Islands in 2008 when I was forty-five. I started out an out of shape but active dad, losing pounds and inches but gaining a mountain of stories.

Thank you for the gift of life! I wish you and Robin, Steve and Lori, and your families well."
